Refuse & Recycling

Refuse & Recycling Made Easy

MANDATORY RECYCLING - JAN. 1995

Recycling is mandatory in the City Of Onalaska. Items to be recycled include glass jars and bottles, steel food cans, empty paint and aerosol cans, aluminum cans, plastic bottles (#1 & #2), and newspapers. All items, except newspapers, shall be placed loosely in your recycle bin for pickup. You do not need to separate items. Newspapers, including shiny inserts must be bundled in a paper bag or tied with cotton string and placed next to or on top, your recycle bin for pickup. See the rules in “How to Prepare Recyclables” below.

Clear Bags

The City of Onalaska requires all residents to use clear bags for the disposal of all refuse materials. The refuse hauler will not pick up other bags, or empty any garbage can unless the refuse is loose or in clear bags. Transparent bags of other colors are acceptable!

CLEAR BAGS are necessary for all bagged garbage! The bags are not provided by the City, but can be purchased at most retail outlets in the area in a variety of sizes. Call 781-9500 for a list of stores that carry clear & transparent bags.

*Place bags or garbage cans one car length past the end of your front sidewalk (550 Braund place at end of sidewalk).

Recycling Bin Pick Up

Your bin will be picked up every other week on the same day as your regular refuse day.

PLEASE NOTE: The garbage and recyclables are picked up in different trucks! Refuse and recyclables must be out at the pick-up spot prior to 5:00 a.m. Place recycle bins one car lengthen out past end of side walk. (550 Braund Use Recycling bins at end of garage #11).
